ABOUT OUR SCHOOL
Welcome from the principal
My name is Mr. Tomas Andreasson and I have been the principal of the Internationella Engelska Skolan (IES) in Halmstad since 2013. I have worked with education for 25 years and would like to share with you what makes IES unique.
Firstly, it is a great feeling to work in an international environment with staff and students from all over the world. Here, different cultures and perspectives meet and this creates an understanding that the world is bigger than Halmstad and Sweden.
Secondly, routines are important at our school. They create order and structure but also security and a calm environment for studying. That is why, for example, we each morning greet students and staff by the entrance. Saying ’good morning’ and getting a ’thank you’ or ’good morning’ back is a good start to the day, but it is also a way for our students to learn good manners.
We have all been in challenging situations at some point in life, but we have also learnt something from them. That is why I think it is so exciting to follow our students and their language development. They start as 10-year-olds, when they nervously say single words, and finish as 16-year-olds when they speak the English language fluently and with ease.
At IES, we work actively to challenge students to go outside of their comfort zone when it comes to, for example, daring to speak English and getting to know new friends when we are mixing classes. We do this because we are convinced that this is an important ability to have as grown-ups.
At IES Halmstad, our goal is for every student to succeed. Therefore, I expect parents, students and staff to do their utmost to achieve this on a daily basis.
